HelloFresh Meal Delivery Kit

I recently tried HelloFresh, a meal kit that delivers fresh meals to your home and all you have to do is cook it by following the recipe they provide. I was at first skeptical about it because I didn’t think it was necessary. I mean, how hard is it to grocery shop and cook at home? While going through the motions and preparing my first meal of Pan-Seared Chicken and Orecchitte I was really surprised how much I liked the whole process. It took out all the meal planning, grocery shopping and measuring ingredients and made it very simple to make the recipe provided. The process is pretty simple, you choose the meals you prefer from their database, they send you the fresh ingredients already measured out and you follow the simple step-by-step instructions and have dinner in about 30 minutes.

I think by far my favorite part of the meal kit, is that there is no food waste. How often I buy parsley for a certain recipe and end up throwing away half, or my garlic bulb goes bad before I could use cook all the cloves, or only using half the can of tomatoes and only forgetting later to cook the other half for another day. There are days when we go out to dinner because I don’t know what to make for dinner, I’m missing one ingredient for a recipe or I just didn’t have time to grocery shop that week. When dining out, it’s tough to stay healthy and control the ingredients in the food you eat. Not to mention the cost of dining out is a lot more than cooking at home. I like the convenience of the meal kit, the healthy options and it saves time and money. Most recipes were 45 minutes or less, not to mention the time the time I save shopping for groceries. The meals I prepared were measured for two, but it was more than enough for my husband, two little girls and me.

What I didn’t take in consideration is that not everyone could cook like me and some are intimidated by cooking. What’s funny is that even I was a little intimidated in making the Turkish meatballs because the recipe required polenta and I never made it from scratch before. Not only was it so easy, but also it was my favorite meal out of the three I prepared this week. It took me out of my own comfort zone and made something I never cooked before.
