A few years ago, if someone were to ask me to go to Miami for a weekend of working out, I would say yes to Miami….and no to the sweat. But this wasn’t just any workout weekend, because the ladies from Tone It Up were hosting it. After seeing the recap videos from their previous retreat, I was excited to not just go to Miami, but to get my fitness on with hundreds of other women.
My assistant, Tiffany, and I hopped on a plane and got whisked away to the Ritz Carlton in Key Biscayne. I loved how we could see the ocean from the balcony.
We picked up our goodie bags, which were packed with so much stuff, I’m glad I had extra space in my luggage! We couldn’t do too much that night, because there was a Rosé 5k first thing in the morning.
After putting my new Tone It Up outfit on, we went downstairs for breakfast. Each day started with a light breakfast in the cantina right by the beach. We then went to the front of the hotel to our buses, and that’s when I realized how many women were there from the Tone It Up, or TIU, community. It was a swarm of ladies ready to run the Rosé 5K… the energy was exciting! We were bussed to a nearby park and pumped up even more with music. I met Karena and Katrina, aka KK (the Tone It Up founders), and after getting my outfit featured on their Snapchat, we stretched all together and ran this gorgeous waterfront route. It was so hot but I managed to finish and get greeted by KK at the finish line for my cute medal and a glass of cold rosé.
After the 5k, we were served a heartier breakfast and then bussed back to the Ritz so we could get ready for the next set of events: kayaking and stand up paddle board.
The ocean was calling me because it was so humid, and I couldn’t wait to get in my bathing suit and try something new. Tiffany and I kayaked first, and it was fun! After, we hit the pool and then had lunch. The tacos were good and I couldn’t help but take a photo.
The next item on the itinerary was stand up paddle board. I feel accomplished because I was able to stand up, even considering all of the activities we did since the early morning. Thanks to RUN SUP for their lessons and coaching on the water.
That evening was exciting, because we were all having an all-white yacht party. It was amazing to see all the lovely ladies dressed in white and really glammed up….a really big difference from seeing them early in the morning in their running outfits!
We were bussed to the Miami docks and then we walked the red carpet to this massive yacht, the Biscayne Lady. As we boarded, we were each handed a Kendra Scott jewelry box. Everyone received their own individual piece. What a nice party favor.
After passed hors de’vours and about 5 servings of ceviche, we all had a sit down dinner.
I had a great time getting to know the ladies sitting at my table, and what’s even funnier is that one of the only men on the boat sat with us too, and he happened to be Karena’s fiancé. Karena joined us in a conversation about married life…and babies. The ladies at my table eventually carried the fun on to the dance floor. We danced the night away to Spice Girls, Beyonce, and Pitbull, of course. I fell in love with the Miami skyline.
We had breakfast in the Cantina again and then got ready for the first agenda item: the Booty Call workout with Karena and Katrina. This group workout was set out on the main lawn of the hotel with views of the ocean behind the stage. It was already 80 degrees at 9am, so we all were sweating together.
Luckily, we wore our bathing suits under our workout clothes so we can enjoy some pool time in between our next set of activities: Cardio Salsa and Kickboxing. Those two workouts were killer in the Miami heat, but the energy of the instructors and the other ladies helped me push through. If you really want to see how it went, check out my Facebook Live video!
We had another taco lunch and just spent some time hanging out at the beach and the pool. It seemed like everywhere we ended up in a photo shoot with KK and other TIU ladies. Luckily, we went to the room to get ready for the farewell party right before a crazy storm hit.
The Farewell Party was really cute. At every seat, there was a photo souvenir printed from the morning’s Booty Call workout. We watched a video from our weekend together and Karena and Katrina gave out some awards. We were then serenaded with a performance from their friend. It was a sweet way to end a fun weekend together.
Luckily, Tiffany and I had a chance to explore a little bit too, so we went dancing in South Beach with the little energy we had left, and visited the Wynwood District the next day.
We even went to CVI.CHE 105, a highly recommended Peruvian restaurant, and ordered so much food including 4 kinds of ceviche. I was totally inspired to go home and hit the kitchen right away to make my own version. Check out the recipe.
I had a great time going to Miami again, but this time with a focus on fitness, friends, and food. Thank you Tone It Up for having me!
