Vietnamese Caramelized Shrimp

Vietnamese Caramelized Shrimp

Vietnamese Caramelized Shrimp is total comfort food for me. My parents made it once a month and it was always something I looked forward to. I think everyone can relate, when moving out we all miss our parents home cooking. As much as I love this recipe, I must say it doesn't compare to when my parents make it. It might be because it's made with love or maybe it's the msg that I don't add to mine...

Cuisine: Vietnamese
Ingredients
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • ½ tbsp. low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tsp. fish sauce
  • 1 tsp. apple cider vinegar
  • ½ tbsp. brown sugar
  • ½ tbsp. maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp. sesame oil or avocado oil
  • 1 tbsp. minced garlic
  • ½ tsp. black pepper
Instructions
  1. In non-stick pan heat up oil to medium heat then add garlic and cook until slightly brown. Add fish sauce, brown sugar, maple syrup, vinegar and black pepper mix evenly and cook sauce for 1 minute before adding shrimp. Cook shrimp for 3-5 minutes until done and sauce thickens.
  2. I served this over leftover grilled asparagus that I just mixed into the sauce afterwards. You can also just use your favorite steamed veggies and add to the sauce after. The only way to eat his is with rice, because it’s so salty and sweet the rice will balance out the flavor.
  3. This serves about 2 people
